About Us

Northeast Fantastic is the official blog of the Northeast Alliance for the Study of the Fantastic and the allied Fantastic Areas (Fantasy & Science Fiction and Monsters & the Monstrous) of the Northeast Popular Culture/American Culture Association (a.k.a. NEPCA), a regional affiliate of the Popular Culture Association and the American Culture Association. Founded in 2018, the Northeast Alliance for Scholarship on the Fantastic offers this site as a gateway towards furthering the study of the intermedia traditions of the fantastic in all their varied forms and an archive of the activities of the the Fantastic (Fantasy, Horror, and Science Fiction) Area of the Northeast Popular Culture/American Culture Association.

Call for Papers 2018

The 2018 meeting of NEPCA will convene at Worcester State University, Worcester, MA, from 19-20 October 2018, and, in conjunction with NEPCA, the Fantastic (Fantasy, Horror, and Science Fiction) Area will be announcing the call for papers for our eleventh-anniversary and farewell sessions. Given the proximity to Halloween and the commemoration of the two hundredth anniversary of the publication of Frankenstein, we are especially interested in proposals that explore the motif of the monstrous related to the theme of Frankenstein 1818 to 2018: 200 Years of Mad Scientists and Monsters" (details at https://frankensteinandthefantastic.blogspot.com/2017/09/cfp-frankenstein-1818-to-2018-200-years.html) but will also consider proposals outside that topic that relate to the fantastic. Scholars of all levels are invited to submit individual proposals or proposals for complete sessions; submissions will be accepted until 1 June 2018. Further details will be available in the soon to be posted call for papers.

A complete archive lists of past sessions can be accessed at https://northeastfantastic.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html.

Be on the lookout in fall 2018 for our call for papers for the 2019 convocation of NEPCA and the initial call for papers for our successor area.
