I finished reading China Miéville's Kraken: An Anatomy (2010) last month. This was the third book of his that I have read after The City and the City and Railsea. The other two books are science fiction dealing, respectively, with parallel worlds and post apocalyptic futures, but Kraken is pure urban fantasy. I was particularly impressed here with Miéville's world-building. The magical worlds of London and its inhabitants (particularly Wati and his fellow familiars and the ocean) are very alive and engaging, though the story itself ultimately disappoints. Still, I think this would make a great fantasy film.
Further details about the book can be found at the publisher's website at http://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/114260/kraken-by-china-mieville/paperback#.
